By now you may have noticed that we publish a lot of things, mostly written by Ruth.  While Ruth started working on them, it became increasingly difficult for her to continue to cook for the family.  After a few experiements, the Haag family determined that each member should cook one night of the week.  Then came the next surprise: only Ruth really knew how to cook.  So she had to sit in the kitchen with her work and give continual advice to the 'Chef of the Evening.'  Of course, a series of cookbooks for people who can't cook was the outcome of the experiment.  We think that our cookbook series has some really nice features.  Each page is in a plastic sleeve, so you can spill on the book when it is open on your counter, and then just wipe it off!  You can also take the recipe out of the sleeve and write notes to yourself.  We put the ingredients in the order that you will use them, and we put the dry ingredients first, so that your measuring cup will still be clean when you put in the wet ingredients.  At a book show, we were surprised to discover that men are attracted to the book, it is something they aren't afraid to pick up.  If you know some men who could use help in the kitchen, consider this as a the perfect gift.

Volume 1: cookbook-to-english dictionary

The first part of the learning-to-cook problem is understanding the language.  Here is a translation dictionary for you.  Ruth's friend Nancy Caplan (the heroine of Ruth's book entitled Hope all is well there, Love Nancy) said "I wish I had had this book when I first got married."

Volume 2: main dishes

Some regular dishes and some special dishes, all ones that the Haag family has eaten for years and loved.

Volume 3: breads, spreads, and veggies

The sides needed to make a healthy, balanced meal.

Volume 4: desserts

Here are the special endings to that special meal.  You can even replicate Valerie's wedding cake (on the topic of weddings, you might also want to read Old Married Friends' advice.)
